La plaça del Diamant
Mercè Rodoreda
A universal and tremendously up-to-date experience.
Mercè Rodoreda’s novel is staged at the Sala Gran in a mise-en-scène by Carlota Subirós, who has already brought us intimate and contemporary versions of Catalan classics such as Maria Rosa and Sol solet, by Àngel Guimerà.
Natàlia is a humble woman in the Gràcia neighbourhood. The river of her life has followed the course of the Second Republic, war and the misery of the Franco period. A character played by eleven actresses of different ages and backgrounds, in a kind of theatrical and feminine kaleidoscope that reveals nuances and shows us the contrasts of Natàlia’s life.
La plaça del Diamant is a key piece in Catalan literature and a post-war classic. Revisiting our heritage is a national theatre’s ethical and historical duty. We are our memories.
