Zona inundable
Marta Barceló
A mosaic of solidarity, ecology amd memory based on true events.
Sant Llis, October 2018. After four hours of intense rain, a stream overflows its banks, flooding a small town in Mallorca and causing eleven deaths, several injuries and a great deal of material damage.
Very soon a wave of reactions is unleashed: an explosion of unprecedented solidarity and media coverage that raises more and more doubts. Could the tragedy have been avoided? Did the emergency protocols work? Why do they continue to build on the banks of streams?
"The characters in this fictional historical document find themselves abandoned by a contemporary world that does not know what to do with its past, its culture and its history. Floodable Area is the title, a warning that no one knew how to listen.
When the archives of the justice of the peace court in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar were completely flooded, the history of thousands of people was erased. The main image of this show is based on memory, in the hands of volunteer archivists who help us tell this story, recover a part of our identity and hear the voices of the past again." Marta Gil
